Canaletto

Verdicchio di Matelica DOC

Canaletto Verdicchio comes from the Apennine Mountains, which extend across the Marche region, in the centre of Italy. This delicate wine is ideal with seafood and light pasta dishes.

  • Vinification process

Grapes are de-stemmed and very gently pressed in a pneumatic press in an environment free from any oxigen in order to preserve the aromas.

  • Vineyard location

Canaletto Verdicchio comes from the Apennine mountains, which extend across the Marche region, in the centre of Italy. Vineyards are situated in a valley whose particular position prevents the mitigating effect of the sea which, together with the sunshine typical of central Italy, favours a Mediterranean climate with substantial temperature fluctuations between day and night. These temperature drops grant aroma to the grapes and preserve their high acidity and freshness.

  • Harvest

General harvest takes place around end of September, beginning of October, but vineyards which are better exposed and placed on top of the ridges, are hand-picked around mid October, being Verdicchio a rather late varietal.

Fermentation: Fermentation takes place off the skins in temperature controlled conditions not exceeding 16°C, in stainless steel, for approximately 8-10 days and it’s followed by racking. The wine stays on the lees for about 40 days and rests for a while before bottling.

Winemaker’s notes: A delicate wine with hints of green apple and honey with a burst of citrus fruit that gives a crisp finish. Ideal with seafood and light pasta dishes.
